Have you, like the Doctor, ever felt like an alien on Earth? In The Mind of the Doctor, Lillian Crawford reflects on her life as an autistic woman in the context of her obsession with Doctor Who. From identifying with the unearthly child Susan Foreman to being compared by her teachers to Daleks and Cybermen, Crawford looks at the science-fiction series in its classic and NuWho eras through a neurodivergent lens. Along the way she encounters a diversity of fans, actors, and creators who share personal anecdotes about their connection to the TARDIS and the Time Lords, creating a beautiful neurodiverse community. With discussions of love, loss, mental health, music, morality, and friendship, Crawford embarks on a bold new adventure through space and time into the mind of the Doctor themself.

Her recent publications include introductions to the collected screenplays of Terence Davies, published by Bloomsbury in 2025, and she is currently researching a PhD on Screen Two at Royal Holloway, University of London, in collaboration with BBC History. The Mind of the Doctor: Across the Neurodiverse Universe of Doctor Who is her first book.
